She can be an issue for Avon to deal with initially, but he manages to control his usual biting sarcasm and takes good care of her.

Heyer did an excellent job of juxtaposing Leonie's raunchy ways with Avon's coolness and reserved. Her impulsive physical responses and blood-lust are in stark contrast to his calm demeanor. I also enjoyed how he was able to defeat the villain without threatening the villain or chasing him. Instead, he relied on insinuation.

Another thing I enjoyed about this book was how Heyer subtilly highlighted the women's limitations during this time period. Leonie is not a fan of trading in her breeches or riding side-saddle to wear layers of skirts, petticoats and dresses. She also isn't willing to ride on the side saddle and shoots the villains (despite it being a risky job). While Avon is somewhat irritated by her erratic ways at first, Avon soon realizes she is his favorite.

It was a bit difficult to keep track of at first, as Heyer calls the Duke by various names on the initial pages. Once you get it figured out the book becomes more comprehensible. This was a wonderful book that I strongly recommend it! You won't be disappointed, whether you're a Georgette Heyer fan or you just like a good romance!
